TruAlt Bioenergy gets Rs 150 crore for SAF project

Bengaluru based clean energy conglomerate TruAlt Bioenergy Ltd. has announced to have secured financial assistance of Rs 150 crore for its commercial-scale Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) project in Bagalkot, Karnataka.

The new funding has been granted under the Government of India’s PM JI-VAN Yojana (Jaiv Indhan–Vatavaran Anukool Fasal Awashesh Nivaran), an initiative aimed at accelerating the commercialisation of advanced biofuels in the country.

TruAlt said that in addition, the SAF project has received approval from the Centre for High Technology (CHT) under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG).

TruAlt informed in an official release that the financial assistance will cover 7–10% of the project’s capital expenditure. The proposed SAF facility is designed to produce up to 10 crore litres annually.

Vijay Nirani, Managing Director, TruAlt Bioenergy, said, “We are grateful to the Government of India for its continued support in fostering innovation and enabling the commercialisation of next-generation biofuels. Together, we have the opportunity to position India as a global hub for sustainable fuels and clean energy technologies.”

The project is expected to reduce India’s reliance on imported fossil fuels while strengthening domestic production of low-carbon aviation fuels. It is also seen as a step toward building a robust domestic SAF industry.

A Dream In The Making

The initiative aligns with global aviation decarbonisation efforts under the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA). It also supports India’s SAF blending targets, which aim for 1% blending by 2027, 2% by 2028, and 5% by 2030.

In 2024, TruAlt announced plans to establish one of the world’s largest SAF plants in India. In November 2025, signed an MoU with the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (APEDB) to set up one of the world’s largest SAF production units in the state with an estimated investment of Rs 2,250 crore. In January 2026, TruAlt partnered Honeywell to produce 80,000 tons per annum of SAF in the country.
