THDCIL unveils India’s largest electrolyser based green hydrogen pilot at Rishikesh

THDC India Limited (THDCIL), a leading entity in the power sector, has inaugurated India’s largest electrolyser and fuel cell-based green hydrogen pilot project in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. This initiative marks a significant milestone in green hydrogen production and aligns with the objectives of the “National Green Hydrogen Mission.”

The project, situated at the Rishikesh office complex, was inaugurated by RK Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director of THDCIL, alongside Shallinder Singh, Director (Personnel), and Bhupender Gupta, Director (Technical), along with other senior officers of THDCIL.

Vishnoi revealed that the pilot project aims to produce 50 kilograms of green hydrogen daily, utilizing input energy from a 1-megawatt rooftop solar plant. The produced green hydrogen will be stored in two storage tanks and utilized during nighttime to illuminate the THDCIL office complex through a 70-kilowatt PEM fuel cell. This project represents India’s largest electrolyser and fuel cell-based pilot initiative.

The achievement of THDCIL demonstrates its commitment to advancing sustainable practices and embracing innovative solutions in green energy production. Furthermore, the collaboration between THDCIL and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee, through a signed MoU, underscores the joint efforts in research and development, particularly in green hydrogen, EV battery, and biofuels.

Minister for Power and MNRE, RK Singh, recently reiterated that the government is dedicated to energy transition and India’s commitments to reducing emissions intensity. He emphasized the significance of initiatives under the National Green Hydrogen Mission in promoting India’s self-reliance through clean energy and inspiring global clean energy transitions. The effort of THDCIL is directed towards this direction.
