Reliance CBG plant in Peddapuram ready to be inaugurated by N Lokesh

The first unit of the Compressed Biogas Plant built by Reliance at the Peddapuram Industrial Complex will be inaugurated virtually tomorrow on Wednesday. Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh will inaugurate the facility remotely from Diwakarpalli in Prakasam district.

Developed by GPS Renewables, a leading biogas engineering company, the project spans 60 acres and involves an investment of Rs 375 crore. Once fully operational, the plant will produce 67.53 tons of gas per day, equivalent to approximately 56,275 cubic meters. The first unit, constructed at a cost of Rs 114.20 crore, was recently consecrated with a puja ceremony on Ugadi.

As per the details, the second and third units are scheduled to commence operations in May and August, respectively.

Reliance Industries has ambitious plans to establish nearly 500 Compressed Biogas (CBG) plants across Andhra Pradesh, including upcoming facilities in Markapur, Giddalur, and Darsi in Prakasam district, according to Energy Minister of the state Gottipati Ravi Kumar. He emphasized that these plants will generate thousands of jobs, helping to curb migration from the region. Additionally, farmers will benefit from tenancy agreements to cultivate specialized grass for biogas production.

As per reports, the raw materials for the CBG plant will be sourced from Kakinada, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district, and East Godavari. These regions, known for their paddy, corn, sugarcane, palm oil, vegetable, floriculture, and aquaculture industries, generate substantial amounts of agricultural and commercial waste, along with cattle dung, which will be utilized for biogas production.

Each unit of the CBG plant is expected to provide direct employment to 70 individuals and create indirect job opportunities for 200 more.

Previously, state’s Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Ponguru Narayana held that waste to energy (WTE) plants would throng Andhra Pradesh and tenders will soon be issued to clear the legacy waste from the cities of the state & manage the waste scientifically.
