RCT Hydrogen to launch 250 MW electrolyzer manufacturing from 2026

In a key development, RCT GH GmbH (RCT Hydrogen), a German manufacturer of hydrogen production equipment, is set to begin large-scale production of electrolyzer systems in Germany as part of its strategy to support growing green hydrogen market. The company plans to start manufacturing electrolyzer stacks in Thuringia, with preparations for the production facility already underway following cooperation agreements signed with an experienced manufacturing partner in eastern Germany in December 2025.

RCT Hydrogen said that the production of electrolyzer plants with an annual capacity of up to 250 MW is scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2026, beginning with the installation of a 2.5 MW electrolyzer.

Delivery and commissioning of the first system are planned for the third quarter of 2026 at a German industrial facility.

RCT Hydrogen will focus on electrolyzer systems for early-stage megawatt-scale hydrogen projects aimed at German industrial customers. These projects will primarily operate under a “hydrogen-as-a-service” model, where RCT Hydrogen and its partners manage hydrogen production directly at customer sites. In addition, the company is planning larger systems exceeding 30 MW in electrolyzer capacity to meet anticipated industrial demand.

RCT Hydrogen’s systems are based on alkaline pressure electrolyzer technology, known for its durability, efficiency, and suitability for continuous industrial operation. The TÜV-certified technology has already attracted interest from industrial customers, with preliminary agreements signed for the delivery of two additional 2.5 MW electrolyzers.

According to RCT Hydrogen, the hydrogen-as-a-service approach could accelerate hydrogen adoption by offering predictable pricing and reducing upfront investment for industrial users. While green hydrogen remains more expensive than natural gas, rising CO₂ prices are narrowing the cost gap, making low-carbon hydrogen increasingly competitive—particularly for industries already reliant on hydrogen.

RCT Hydrogen leverages a global value chain, combining cost-optimized components from its Chinese partner Guofuhee with core manufacturing steps in Germany and Europe. Process control systems and energy management software are being developed in collaboration with Siemens Digital Industries, further strengthening safety, efficiency, and scalability across upcoming projects.

Germany is aggressively pursuing green hydrogen as key to its 2045 climate neutrality goal with 10 GW domestic production. The Hydrogen Acceleration Act (2024) fast-tracks approval for projects and also bolster import facilities.
