Prime Minister Modi to lay foundation stone of HPCL’s grain based ethanol projects at Sugauli and Lauria, Bihar

Just as India moves closer to the announcement of General Elections dates and the model code of conduct kicking-in, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has increased the speed of inaugurations and foundation stone laying of development projects across the country. In this quest, PM Modi will be laying the foundation stone of the ethanol project of HPCL Biofuels Limited (HBL) in Bihar today. This ethanol plant is expected to manufacture the biofuel from grains.

The Prime Minister is expected to be joined by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Governor Rajendra Arlekar, Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Transport & Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Minister Giriraj Singh, BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy and others.

The Prime Minister will also be inaugurating the Muzaffarnagar-Motihari LPG pipeline. The objective of the new gas pipeline is to ensure supply of LPG to Motihari district of Bihar and Nepal.

As per the information gathered from sources, this project will ensure smooth supply of LPG to lakhs of consumers in Gopalganj, Siwan, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, East Champaran and West Champaran of Bihar and Kushinagar and Deoria districts of Uttar Pradesh. Besides, there will be saving of more than crores of rupees in logistics cost every year and there will be reduction in carbon emissions.

The foundation stone of the Urban Gas Distribution Project in East Champaran, West Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan and Deoria will ensure supply of clean and green fuel to the residents of these districts.

HPCL Biofuels Limited was incorporated in 2009 as a wholly owned subsidiary of HPCL as a part of their backward integration. HBL was to set up integrated Sugar, Ethanol & Co-gen power plants by reviving two closed Sugar Mills namely, Sugauli & Lauriya in the state of Bihar. The Ethanol from these Plants were to be used for blending in petrol which is the ambitious Ethanol Blending Program of the Union Government.
