Prime Minister Modi to launch green hydrogen project in Visakhapatnam

As Andhra Pradesh looks bullish on the green energy project after the launch of its new policy recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Visakhapatnam on January 8 to lay the foundation stones for several important projects, including the Green Hydrogen Project.

During the visit, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation for the Green Hydrogen Project, a major initiative supported by NTPC. In addition, he will lay the foundation stones for railway zone administrative buildings and other key development initiatives, some of which will be conducted virtually.

Previously, PM Modi was scheduled to visit Visakhapatnam on November 29 to lay the foundation for the Green Hydrogen Park, a joint venture between NTPC Green Energy Limited and NREDCAP in Anakapalli district. This was was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.

The Prime Minister will also address a public meeting, joined by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, along with other Union and state ministers.

India Leads in Green Hydrogen – Pralhad Joshi

Meanwhile, the MNRE Minister Pralhad Joshi has held that India is leading the world in the green hydrogen sector. Speaking during a visit to a floating solar plant at Omkareshwar Dam in Madhya Pradesh’s Khandwa district, Joshi mentioned that the Union government has initiated a tender for the world’s largest green ammonia demonstration project.

“India is at the forefront of the green hydrogen sector, surpassing other countries. We have launched the world’s largest green ammonia project,” Joshi said. He further added that while India needs electricity, it must come from sustainable sources, positioning India as a global leader in renewable energy.

India has launched the National Green Hydrogen Mission with an outlay of Rs. 19,744 crores with a target of 5MMT production capacity of Green Hydrogen per annum. Previously has shown optimism about the award of additional production capacity of 7.80 Lakh MTPA of Green Hydrogen, along with its derivatives in 2025 in India.

Meanwhile the Telangana Deputy CM, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has revealed that the state government is working on a plan to develop green hydrogen manufacturing hubs in the state and add 20,000 MW of renewable energy capacity by the end of this decade. “We are laying the groundwork for green hydrogen manufacturing hubs,” he said.
