In a key development, Oswal Greenzo Energies has said that it has secured a 5-MW green hydrogen project at Deendayal Port in Kandla, Gujarat, under the central government’s Sagarmala Initiative.
The green hydrogen project will be executed on an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis and includes provisions for future expansion up to 10 MW by leveraging common infrastructure.
Under the contract, Oswal Greenzo Energies will undertake the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the green hydrogen facility at the port.
Once operational, the 5 MW facility is expected to produce around 800 tonnes of green hydrogen annually. The output will support the adoption of clean energy across port operations and the mobility segment, contributing to lower emissions in a high-traffic maritime environment.
Commenting on the development, Kushal Agarwal, Executive Director, Greenzo Energy, said the project highlights the potential for integrating green hydrogen into large-scale, mission-critical infrastructure such as ports. Oswal Greenzo Energies is a joint venture between clean-tech firm Greenzo Energy India and EPC solutions provider Oswal Energies.
Green hydrogen is produced using renewable energy sources such as solar or wind power, primarily through the electrolysis of water, which splits it into hydrogen and oxygen. It can also be derived from biomass, provided emissions remain within prescribed limits.
The project aligns with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM), which promotes the use of green hydrogen in the maritime sector through pilot initiatives. These include ship retrofitting, development of port-based bunkering and refuelling infrastructure, and the creation of green hydrogen hubs at ports such as Kandla, Tuticorin (VoC Port) and Paradip.
Last October, Oswal Energies partnered with Greenzo Energy to invest Rs 320 crore over the next two years to establish infrastructure for the production, storage and transportation of green hydrogen. Greenzo Energy too secured a significant contract from Jindal Stainless (JSL) to deliver an advanced electrolyser at Kalinga Nagar Industrial Complex in Jajpur, Odisha.
