OIL agrees to construct CBG plant in Tinsukia town of Assam

Oil India Ltd (OIL) and Tinsukia Municipal Board (TMB) have collaborated to transform municipal solid waste (MSW) into compressed biogas (CBG) plant. The players held that this shows the part of their commitment to sustainable waste management practices in the region.

The partnership was formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed at the Tinsukia district commissioner’s office. OIL says that this marks the commencement of a joint venture aimed at establishing an organic MSW-based CBG plant within the district.

The CBG project is anticipated to make a substantial environmental impact by reducing landfill waste and fostering the generation of clean energy. Under the terms of the agreement, OIL will provide technical and administrative assistance, drawing upon its expertise in biogas and its derivatives.

OIL will also enlist the services of a consultant to develop a detailed project report (DPR) to ensure the successful execution of the CBG plant.

With a projected daily production capacity of 2 tonnes, the CBG plant will rely on Tinsukia Municipal Board to supply 40-50 tonnes of segregated organic MSW per day. Additionally, TMB has committed to allocating 6 to 8 acres of land to OIL for the construction of the CBG plant.

The agreement was signed by Pabitra Gogoi, Chairman of TMB, and Madhurjya Chaliha, Manager (PR) of OIL, in the presence of Tinsukia district Commissioner Swapneel Paul and other top officials from both the Tinsukia district administration and OIL.

Recently, Bengaluru-based GPS Renewables, a biofuels technology company, has partnered strategically with the Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) to set up Compressed Biogas Plants (CBG Plants).

Indraprastha Gas (IGL) has announced that it will be developing 19 compressed biogas (CBG) plants in four states of India.
