NextChem, ENGIE expedite hunting for novel biomethane technology

NEXTCHEM, via its subsidiary NextChem Tech, and ENGIE have forged a partnership to collaborate on advancing and bringing to market an innovative biomethane technology. This technology aims to convert dry biomass waste into synthetic methane.

Under this collaborative agreement, the technology company will serve as a key strategic partner and co-developer, tasked with optimizing, integrating, refining, and commercializing this cutting-edge process. Leveraging NextChem and ENGIE’s proprietary technologies, the aim is to industrialize the process initially through the Salamandre project situated in Le Havre, France. Following industrialization, NextChem Tech will hold exclusive global licensing rights for the integrated package.

This partnership underscores the shared commitment of NextChem Tech and ENGIE towards fostering a transition to a zero-carbon industry. Central to this commitment is the reduction of energy consumption and the provision of environmentally sustainable solutions, aligning with a circular approach.

Mohammed Nafid, CEO of NextChem Tech, said, “As this cooperation shows, our commitment to industrialising our technological solutions for the energy transition continues to increase. We are proud to consolidate our strategic partnership with ENGIE by supporting its path towards decarbonisation and accelerating the achievement of the bio-methane production targets set by the EU.”

Last month, MAIRE announces that  NextChem Tech has been awarded a new contract by ENGIE to carry out a PRE-FEED for the gasification and methanation of the waste wood as well as the implementation of a carbon capture unit for the Salamandre project in the Normandy region.
