MVK Agro Food Product gets environmental nod for 120 KLPD ethanol plant in Nanded

Nanded based MVK Agro Food Product has received environmental clearance for setting up a 120 KLPD ethanol distillery plant with a 2.5 MW cogeneration power facility in Nanded itself, marking a key milestone in the company’s expansion strategy in Maharashtra.

The environmental approval allows MVK to move forward with the construction and subsequent operation of the integrated ethanol production unit. As per reports, the proposed facility will have a production capacity of 120 kilolitres per day (KLPD) of ethanol and will be supported by a 2.5 MW cogeneration power plant. The project has been designed to enhance energy efficiency and optimize resource utilization.

The integrated ethanol project structure reflects a focus on sustainable operations, as the cogeneration unit will enable the MVK plant to generate its own power while utilizing process by-products. MVK believes that this approach is expected to improve operational efficiency and reduce overall energy costs.

With a capacity of 120 KLPD, the plant will emerge as a significant ethanol production unit in the region. Nanded’s established agricultural base and industrial infrastructure are expected to support feedstock availability and logistics for the distillery. Environmental clearance is a mandatory regulatory requirement for industrial projects involving chemical processing and power generation.

Maharashtra On Top

The state of Maharashtra has emerged as the top ethanol producing state in the country. As of the data concerning Ethanol Supply Year (ESY) 2024–25, Maharashtra had an estimated annual capacity of approximately 396 crore liters of ethanol with 168 distilleries operational in the state. Maharashtra is expanding its feedstock options, allowing for production from molasses, sugarcane juice, and food grains like rice and maize to boost ethanol capacity.
