Kirloskar Pneumatic unveils ‘Tonalli’ waste-to-biogas solution

Kirloskar Pneumatic has unveiled ‘Tonalli,’ a decentralized waste-to-energy solution designed to convert organic waste into biogas and organic fertilizer, marking a step forward in sustainable waste management practices.

The launch took place at the head office and plant of Kirloskar Pneumatic in Hadapsar, Pune, in the presence of industry leaders from the Hadapsar Industrial Estate, including representatives from Gits Food Products Private Limited and Pune Gas Systems Private Limited.

Positioned as a compact and efficient system, Tonalli is built around the principles of the circular economy, aiming for 100 per cent utilization of food and organic waste. The solution is targeted at industrial canteens, hospitality establishments, and residential communities where organic waste is generated continuously.

Kirloskar Pneumatic says that the system integrates proprietary “BioBit Technology” and is designed as a plug-and-play solution aligned with the requirements of India’s Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026. It uses a controlled anaerobic digestion process to convert waste into biogas, which can then be used as a clean energy source.

Among its key features are an inbuilt gas agitation mechanism that eliminates the need for mechanical mixing, and a pressurised gas delivery system powered by an indigenous Kirloskar compressor to ensure a stable flame output. The solution also incorporates PLC-based industrial safety systems, including automatic flaring, vacuum protection, and pressure relief mechanisms.

According to its technology partner, NobleExchange Environment Solutions, each Tonalli installation can significantly reduce reliance on LPG, generate carbon credits, and deliver environmental benefits comparable to planting thousands of trees.

As per Kirloskar Pneumatic, the biogas produced undergoes multi-stage purification, including moisture removal and hydrogen sulphide scrubbing, before being used, ensuring both efficiency and safety in operation.

With the launch of Tonalli, Kirloskar Pneumatic aims to strengthen its presence in sustainable engineering solutions while supporting India’s transition toward decentralized and environmentally responsible waste management systems.
