KEC Agritech has announced plans to develop 15 new compressed biogas (CBG) parks across five states, as it accelerates expansion in the clean energy sector amid strong government support and rising demand for green fuels.
The company has already commissioned a CBG park in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, and aims to scale up to more than 225 plants by 2027.
“We expect to close this year with over 74 plants,” said Jitendra Narayan, CEO of KEC Agritech. Narayan further described CBG as a “game-changer” for India’s energy transition, emphasizing its triple benefits: strengthening energy security, enabling scientific waste management, and boosting rural incomes.
Industry projections highlight the sector’s rapid growth, with the CBG market expected to surge from USD 15.2 billion in 2024 to USD 37.63 billion by 2032—growing at a compound annual rate of 12% between 2025 and 2032.
The government’s SATAT (Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation) scheme has set a target of 5,000 CBG plants by 2025. Oil marketing companies have already issued thousands of letters of intent to procure CBG, ensuring producers a steady market.
India generates around 750 million metric tonnes of agricultural residue, municipal waste, and other biomass annually. This has the potential to produce over 62 million tonnes of CBG each year—capable of substituting a large portion of imported natural gas and LPG.
