The Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) will be commissioning its green hydrogen plant in Panipat district of Haryana within the next two years. The objective is to give new speed to sustainability efforts of the country. Arvinder Singh Sahney, Chairman of IOCL, shared this informing at the World Economic Forum-2025 in Davos, Switzerland.
As per reports, the IOCL chairman revealed that the green hydrogen plant has made substantial progress and it will have a production capacity of 10,000 tons per annum.
Sahney mentioned that the green hydrogen plant is now a reality and IOCL has received very competitive bids. The tender evaluation process is underway and within a month or so IOCL would look to award the contract. “The plant in Panipat will be commissioned within two years,” he said.
The project aims to strengthen India’s green energy mission and contribute to a sustainable, carbon-neutral future.
Expansion in City Gas Distribution (CGD)
The chairman also highlighted IOCL’s rapid advancements in the city gas distribution (CGD) sector. IOC is developing infrastructure as much as possible to connect more households, set up additional compressed natural gas (CNG) stations, and boost the supply of piped natural gas (PNG), he apprised. Sahney also mentioned that his company is concentrating on enhancing the existing operations to align with its commitment to a cleaner energy transition.
With the upcoming green hydrogen plant and a robust CGD network, the PSU expects to continue to play a vital role in India’s shift towards a cleaner and greener energy landscape.
IOCL is also building green hydrogen production plant at its Mathura refinery too. The company is shaping the developing green hydrogen landscape in India through other initiatives as well like hydrogen dispensing facilities and operating fuel cell buses.
