The Sardar Swaran Singh National Institute of Bioenergy (SSS-NIBE) has invited Expressions of Interest (EOI) from eligible educational and research institutions under Jaiv Urja Mitra Skill Development Programme (JUMP). These institutions will function as empanelled Training Centres across 17 states, including Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.
The MNRE Ministry has launched the Jaiv Urja Mitra Skill Development Programme (JUMP) making it a nationwide initiative aimed at building a ‘skilled workforce’ for India’s expanding bioenergy sector.
The new programme is being implemented by SSS-NIBE which is an autonomous institute under MNRE and will serve as the nodal agency.
JUMP is designed to equip young people with the technical skills required for the operation and maintenance of bioenergy facilities, particularly compressed biogas (CBG) plants and biomass pellet manufacturing units.
Fully funded by MNRE, the JUMP scheme covers training, assessment, and boarding costs, reinforcing India’s push toward a skilled, inclusive and sustainable bioenergy workforce.
As per the notification, universities, engineering colleges, polytechnics and Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) with relevant experience in renewable energy are encouraged to apply.
The selected centres must provide adequate infrastructure, such as classrooms, specialised laboratories and residential facilities for at least 30 trainees per batch. The residential courses will run for 60 to 74 days, depending on the job role.
JUMP training will cover four categories – (1) Biomass Depot Operator, (2) Agri-residue Aggregator, (3) CBG Plant Technician and (4) Pellet/Briquette Plant Technician.
In its first phase, the programme aims to train nearly 950 candidates, including around 110 trainers. Special emphasis has been placed on rural youth, women, unemployed individuals and candidates from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities, with 30 percent of seats reserved for women.
