Elan Energy secures PMC work for 16 CBG projects from BPCL

In a key development, Elan Energy has been awarded the Project Management Consultancy (PMC) contract by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) for 16 Compressed Biogas (CBG) projects across India. The contract, worth approximately ₹300 million, will support the establishment of new facilities in several states to convert agricultural residue, municipal solid waste (MSW), and biomass into clean fuel.

BPCL’s selection process emphasized proven expertise in large-scale energy infrastructure, advanced engineering capabilities, and strong sustainability credentials. Elan Energy’s successful track record in executing CBG projects positioned it as the preferred partner.

“Elan Energy’s experience in handling complex CBG projects made them the right partner for this initiative,” a company spokesperson stated.

The projects form part of the Central Government’s Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation (SATAT) programme, which aims to expand India’s bioenergy footprint while creating rural economic opportunities.

Under the PMC contract, Elan Energy will oversee end-to-end project delivery, including engineering design, vendor tendering, execution supervision, commissioning, performance guarantees, and operational readiness. The company’s role will ensure uniform quality and timely execution across all sites.

Once operational, these projects are expected to create one of India’s most extensive CBG production networks, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and cutting greenhouse gas emissions, while strengthening India’s transition towards cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.

In August 2025, Elan commenced project management consultancy (PMC) work on India’s first refinery-based Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant – which was again awarded by BPCL.

Elan Energy has been pioneering sustainable energy solutions across multiple sectors, including solar energy, compressed biogas, biodiesel, wastewater treatment, green hydrogen, carbon credits, ESG, sustainability, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), and other renewable fuels.
