Banas Dairy to build new bio-CNG project in Banaskantha

India’s leading dairy cooperative Banas Dairy has announced plans to establish a new bio-CNG plant at Dhanpur in the Banaskantha district, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable agriculture and enhancing farmers’ income.

The announcement was made during a foundation stone laying ceremony held. Banas Dairy Chairman Shankar Chaudhary stated that the upcoming bio-CNG facility will convert cattle dung into bio-CNG, creating an additional revenue stream for livestock owners. He said that farmers of the area will not only earn from milk production but will also benefit financially from supplying dung to the plant.

As per reports, the dairy has proposed an investment of Rs 40 to 50 crore for the bio-CNG project.

This will be the fourth bio-CNG plant set up by Banas Dairy, building on the success of three similar facilities already operational within its cooperative network. The new bio-CNG plant is expected to significantly benefit farmers and cattle rearers in the Radhanpur region by providing them with a sustainable and reliable source of supplementary income.

At the beginning of this year, the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), Suzuki Research and Development Institute, and Banas Dairy signed a tripartite agreement to develop a 75 MTPD cow dung–based bio-CNG plant in Banaskantha. Before that, Suzuki and Banas Dairy announced their collaboration for building four biogas plants in Gujarat with an investment of more than Rs 250 crore.

NDDB is supporting cooperative milk unions across the country by offering technical expertise and consultancy services for setting up bio-CNG/CBG plants, in line with national priorities of enhancing farmer incomes, efficient waste utilisation, and the objectives of the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying and the Ministry of Cooperation.
