AM Green gets ‘CertifHy EU RFNBO’ pre-certification for Andhra green ammonia project

AM Green, formerly known as Greenko ZeroC, has secured the ‘CertifHy EU RFNBO’ pre-certification for its green ammonia project in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. The project is expected to be operational by early 2025.

AM Green plans to establish one of the world’s largest green ammonia facilities, targeting a production capacity of five million tons per annum by 2030. CertifHy, a leading provider of renewable hydrogen and e-fuel certification, ensures alignment with European market requirements for Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO).

The pre-certification process identifies potential weaknesses early in the design phase, saving time and resources on future modifications. This step is crucial for facilitating Final Investment Decisions (FID) or offtake negotiations.

AM Green held in its official statement, “The pre-certification of our Kakinada plant underscores our commitment to delivering carbon-free energy solutions globally while adhering to the highest standards. This milestone reinforces AM Green’s position as a leading energy transition solutions platform, aiding in the decarbonization of industries such as refineries, shipping, fertilizers, power generation, and chemicals.”

A white paper released by the New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation Of A.P. Ltd (NREDCAP) in September 2023 indicated that Andhra Pradesh may require an investment of $10-15 billion to achieve its target of producing at least 500 kilo-tonnes per annum (ktpa) of green hydrogen by 2030.

Additionally, NTPC Limited has recently signed a Land Lease Agreement to advance its green energy and green hydrogen goals. The agreement, signed on February 20, 2024, between NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) and Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC), aims to develop an “Integrated Green Hydrogen Hub,” supporting India’s energy transition efforts.
