AGR Biogas, TURN2X join for integrated biogas projects in Spain

In a key development, AGR Biogas and TURN2X have entered into a long-term partnership to develop integrated renewable gas projects, combining biomethane production with hydrogen-based methanization to enhance efficiency and sustainability.

The collaboration will focus initially on two projects in Andalusia and Extremadura, where TURN2X facilities will be co-located with AGR Biogas plants. This proximity will enable seamless integration of operations, allowing biogenic CO₂ generated from AGR’s biomethane upgrading process to be utilized by TURN2X for the production of e-methane. In return, renewable heat generated during TURN2X’s methanization process will be supplied back to AGR Biogas, improving overall plant efficiency.

The integrated model is designed to maximize CO₂ utilization, lower emissions, and enhance energy efficiency. By reusing waste heat, AGR Biogas can reduce operational costs, while both companies may also share gas grid infrastructure, helping distribute capital expenditure related to gas injection systems.

The partnership is expected to contribute to industrial decarbonization by supplying e-methane compatible with existing gas networks. It also aims to strengthen energy security by reducing dependence on fossil fuel imports and promoting circular use of biogenic carbon.

TURN2X’s technology offers key advantages, including flexible operation that allows energy use during low-demand periods, reducing production costs, and a modular design that enables installation near CO₂ sources, minimizing transport challenges.

AGR Biogas’s CEO, David Piñero, said, “This collaboration allows us to maximize the value of the biogenic CO₂ generated in our biomethane plants, while also benefiting from the integration of renewable heat, with a circular approach that improves plant performance and positions our facilities as central hubs of the emerging e-methane ecosystem.”

The agreement represents a fundamental pillar in TURN2X strategy to develop a scalable e-methane platform in Spain. Furthermore, combining AGR’s experience in biomethane production with TURN2X Power-to-Methane technology allows for the establishment of a replicable model for integrated renewable gas centers, facilitating long-term alignment between the two partners to scale multiple projects throughout Spain.

About TURN2X and AGR Biogas

TURN2X develops and operates industrial e-methane plants, combining green hydrogen with biogenic CO₂. The company focuses on scalable solutions that accelerate the transition to clean energy in Europe. Meanwhile, AGR Biogas develops, builds, and operates biomethane plants, transforming organic waste streams into green gas and contributing to more sustainable waste management, while also driving the energy transition and the circular economy.
