Adani Energy Solutions certified as ‘zero-waste-to-landfill’ entity

Adani Energy Solutions Ltd. (AESL) has achieved a major sustainability milestone with all its operational sites and corporate headquarters receiving the ‘Zero-Waste-to-Landfill’ (ZWL) certification from Intertek.

Intertek is a global leader in quality assurance. The certification confirms that the company has attained a 100% waste diversion rate, ensuring that none of its waste ends up in landfills.

The ZWL standard requires at least 90% of waste to be diverted from landfills through reduction, reuse, recycling, and recovery. AESL exceeded this benchmark by eliminating landfill disposal completely, reinforcing its commitment to resource conservation and environmental responsibility.

This accomplishment is part of AESL Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) journey, initiated in FY21, with the vision of ranking among the world’s “Top 10 Electric Utility Companies” in ESG benchmarking. Over the past three years, the company consistently recorded diversion rates above 99%—99.87%, 99.88%, and 99.99%—making it India’s first power transmission company to sustain such high levels. In the current year, AESL reached the milestone of 100%, setting a new benchmark in the sector.

The challenge was even greater given the operational spread of AESL. The company runs facilities across 54 locations in 16 states, many of which are in remote and difficult terrains. Achieving ZWL status across such a widespread network underscores AESL’s systematic waste management practices and robust sustainability strategy.

Adani Energy Solutions

Adani Energy Solutions plays a significant role in India’s energy sector. Its businesses span power transmission, distribution, smart metering and cooling solutions. Currently, AESL operates a transmission network stretching 26,696 circuit kilometers (ckm) with a transformation capacity of 93,236 MVA.

In distribution, the company serves over 12 million consumers, primarily in Mumbai and the industrial hub of Mundra SEZ.

By securing the ZWL certification, AESL not only strengthens its ESG credentials but also sets an example for other energy utilities in India and beyond. The achievement highlights the company’s focus on sustainable growth, resource efficiency, and long-term environmental stewardship.
