Green energy projects developer ACME Group will set up a green methanol manufacturing plant in Odisha. The project will be developed in Kendrapada district through its subsidiary ACME Akshya Energy Pvt Ltd and an annual capacity of 200 kilotonne.
ACME Group held that the project in the eastern state of India would generate over 1,100 direct and indirect jobs.
The proposed plant is part of ACME Group’s expanding green hydrogen portfolio and will be implemented in collaboration with the Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha Limited (IPICOL). The company said Odisha was chosen for its strong renewable energy ecosystem, access to port-led infrastructure and availability of biogenic feedstock, which are critical for large-scale green methanol production.
Anil Taparia, COO, ACME, believes that Odisha’s progressive industrial policies and availability of low-cost green power provide an enabling environment to produce green methanol at globally competitive costs.
ACME wants to become a leading green energy provider in the world by the end of decade and produce 10 million tons/year of green ammonia and hydrogen.
ACME in Odisha
ACME Group is already executing multiple green hydrogen and ammonia projects in Odisha. These include one of India’s largest green ammonia facilities at Gopalpur, being developed through a joint venture with Japan’s IHI Corporation.
The company is also setting up a 2,200 metric tonne per day green ammonia plant at Paradip after securing six letters of award from the Solar Energy Corporation of India under the SIGHT Scheme Mode-2A, Tranche-I. Under the long-term offtake agreements, ACME will supply 370,000 metric tonnes of green ammonia annually to Indian fertiliser companies for a period of 10 years.
